Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How do weight loss injections work?
GLP-1 receptor agonists like Wegovy and Mounjaro work by mimicking hormones that regulate appetite. They slow stomach emptying and signal fullness to the brain, reducing hunger and calorie intake.
How much weight can I expect to lose?
Results vary by individual and treatment. Clinical trials show average weight loss of 5–22% of body weight over 12–18 months when combined with lifestyle changes. Your pharmacist will discuss realistic expectations during your consultation.
Are weight loss injections safe?
All treatments we prescribe are licensed by the MHRA and backed by extensive clinical evidence. Common side effects include nausea and digestive changes, which typically improve over time. Your pharmacist will review your full medical history before prescribing.
Do I need a prescription?
Yes. All weight loss medications are prescription-only medicines (POM). Our pharmacist prescribers can issue prescriptions following a clinical consultation — no GP referral needed.
What is the difference between Wegovy and Mounjaro?
Wegovy (semaglutide) targets the GLP-1 receptor, while Mounjaro (tirzepatide) targets both GLP-1 and GIP receptors (dual-action). Clinical trials suggest Mounjaro may produce greater weight loss, but your pharmacist will recommend the best option for your circumstances.
How long will I need treatment?
Weight loss treatment is typically prescribed for a minimum of 3 months, with regular monthly reviews. Many patients continue for 6–12 months. Your pharmacist will work with you on a sustainable plan including lifestyle changes.
Can I take weight loss medication if I have diabetes?
Some GLP-1 medications are also used to treat type 2 diabetes. If you have diabetes, your pharmacist will carefully assess whether weight loss treatment is appropriate alongside your existing medication.
What happens at the consultation?
Your pharmacist will measure your BMI, review your medical history and current medications, discuss your weight loss goals, and recommend the most appropriate treatment. The consultation takes approximately 20 minutes.
